Latin Patriarchal Seminary of Jerusalem
Established in Jerusalem in 1852 by Patriarch Valerga, the Seminary formes diocesan priests for the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem who principally serve in Palestine, Jordan, Israel and Cyprus. It is also open to students from otherCatholic Institutions / Orders, as well as from Sister Churches, who wish to have their formation in the Holy Land in the Arabic language. The curriculum is comprised of an introductory year of spirituality, two years of philosophy, a year abroad, followed by four years of theology, a year of pastoral experience in one of the parishes, plus a year in the seminary to complete the final thesis and comprehensive exams before ordination to the priesthood. The Seminary is affiliated to thePontifical Lateran University in Rome, which enables the students to receivethe degree of Bachelor of Philosophy and Theology. Courses are taught in Arabicwith course material largely in French and English. Since its opening in 1852 until now, 295 seminarians have been ordained priests, 15 of them became bishops and three of them patriarchs.
